I think we can all agree that the cold shoulder trend has stuck around much longer than expected! If I am totally honest, I REALLY didn’t like it at the beginning, but then it grew on me. Now? I may or may not have a couple of cold shoulder or off the shoulder tops that I highly enjoy pairing with some cute pants for summer!
Obviously for those of us who work in an office that maybe wouldn’t accept off the shoulder attire we need some ideas on how to rock it on the weekend or in the evening for a girls night out!
Here are my tips and tricks on strutting your stuff in a cold shoulder top whilst staying comfy and classy!
- Buy it big – One thing I noticed in testing a few different cold shoulder tops was that it would always slip up over my shoulder and then I would be looking not so cute with a bunch of elastic hanging about my neck! My latest top, which is gloriously featured in this post, I bought a size up so that it would be gracefully caressing my shoulders and not eating them! This way I am not forever pulling down my sleeves to expose my cold shoulders!
- Balance – I have said it before and I will say it again, fashion is all about balance! If you’re wearing a super trendy top, it is best to keep the bottoms a little more neutral to balance the outfit. The other key with balance is proportions. For these looks I paired the top with either jean shorts or the ripped jeans. The top is super long and flowy, so I wanted to wear tighter pants to compliment the top not compete with it. I think this look could be done with wide legged flowy pants however I would advise with caution as you don’t want to end up looking like a parachute!
- Be aware – If you’re following point numero uno by buying a little big, you will be happy about it! The only thing that comes from that is to be EXTRA aware about leaning over. As it is a scoopy top, you might end up sharing a little more than you think when you’re leaning over to shoot a flatlay or check our your killer shoes!
- Get a comfy strapless bra – If you’re going all out with the cold shoulder trend you want to ensure maximum comfort and maximum impact of your outfit, this means NO STRAPS! I wouldn’t recommend going braless but that is up to you. For those of us who want to hold the girls in, I recommend getting a skin toned strapless bra that has a little adhesive strip on the inside. I am not talking straight up glue but just enough stickiness to make sure it stays in place. Get one that you feel completely comfortable in; if you’re not feeling comfy it will show!
What do you think of these four tips of how to CRUSH the cold shoulder trend? What tips do YOU use when wearing these off the shoulder tops? I would love to give them a try!
Let me know if there are other trends that you want me to talk about and I will do a post on how to wear them!
