We are almost at the end of our short week after the long weekend, at least if you’re in Canada 🙂
You may have noticed there was no post on Tuesday this week, eeeeek, so sorry about that, I guess things got the better of me when travelling back from Edmonton! When we were preparing everything for Edmonton I knew I wanted to visit a few places in the city, but I had Z-E-R-O idea of where to begin! I reached out to a blogger in the city. Can I just take a moment and say how AMAZING it is to be a part of such an incredible community of bloggers who will help a sister out! I want to give a shout out to Vickie from Adventures in Fashion (@advinfashion). She had so many amazing suggestions that I couldn’t even possibly visit all of them! Here are my top picks if you are heading out in the Edmonton area 🙂
THIS PLACE WAS EPIC! We went for afternoon tacos, but I wish we could have gone back late at night for some of the partying! The moment you walk into El Cortez you’re instantly intrigued by the decor; the colors, murals and neon signs set the scene and make you want to get a margarita in your had as soon as possible! That is exactly what I did; the grapefruit margarita to be more exact! Needless to say these tacos were drool-worthy and the service was on point; our server even took the time to ensure we could get proper lighting for my photos and gave us directions to our next cafe on the list 🙂 If you’re in Edmonton you NEED to go feel the vibes in El Cortez . . . maybe they should consider opening one in Toronto?
When you mix nordic inspired interiors with French gastronomy you find this lovely gem! You really have to know where this restaurant is, otherwise I don’t think we would have stumbled upon it! As you walk in you feel like you’re somewhere in Scandinavia with the clean and simple decor. For all the bloggers and instagrammers out there, make sure you get a table at the bar, by the window or directly under the skylight for the best lighting. Café Linnea felt so homey and wonderful, and I have to say I was especially impressed that when I messaged the informational email, Kelsey the head chef and owner was personally responding to me, it was a nice touch. Definitely check out Linnea for a relaxing brunch! What should you pick to eat? Start with the cardamom cinnamon bun and then get the mushroom galette 🙂
This adorable little place calmed things down for us 🙂 Nothing says relax like a mini chocolate ganache cake and an espresso! Duchess Bake Shop is a super popular place in Edmonton and everyone with a sweet tooth knows its the best! These guys are not kidding around, they have the bakery, a cookbook, baking classes and also sell baking accessories! The interior is super chic, with French inspired sofas and bistro sets. I saw many people parked with their laptops and I know that if I lived in Edmonton, I would definitely be doing the same. Another note on this, if you visit their site, there is a video on the conception of the bakery; I loved it 🙂 A quick snippet – the owner was living in Tokyo and started experimenting with re-creating amazing pastries in her tiny kitchen, once moving back to Edmonton, she shared these creations! I love this boss attitude! Please go check them out and have a macaron for me!
These are only a few of some epic options in the YEG. I think after this weekend in Edmonton, it has inspired me to try to find unique places on every trip I am on, even ones that feel really close to home 🙂
