Welp – I don’t know if you ventured outside on Saturday in Toronto but YEEESH it was a tad chilly! Do you know what this means!!!!??? COLDER weather is on its way (insert BALLING emoji here). We have actually been having a super mild autumn, which is VERY welcome, but we Canadians all know that sooner or later it WILL get deathly cold! Therefore we must PREPARE! Heaven forbid it gets frigid fast and you don’t have a cute warm coat ready to go??? I think that is one of the biggest struggles in Canada. I want to look cute in the winter but its super hard to find a WARM coat that doesn’t make me look like the michelin man!
The other thing every chic woman knows is that your coat has to match the occasion – you don’t want to be looking all cute in your LBD for a girls night out and have to put a parka on top of all that! No way man! You are likely ubering to the restaurant anyways so get a chic little number for that occasion. . . but you still NEED a warm coat too!
So I think you need a few different coats in your toolbox right? The other day I mentioned I was in the market for a new coat and le boyfriend gave me a look and said, “don’t you have enough”? Haha, nope I don’t, and never will! Okay you need some options right – let’s dive in!
For the life of me we got to start with the WARM coat! I mean it IS kind of a ‘no brainer’ right? It is winter, we live in Canada, you NEED something like this! So the one I have here above is perf. Its long (covers the tush so it doesn’t get too cold) and has the nice faux fur surrounding the face. I like this one because while it is super duper warm, its not one of those puffers that can get a little overwhelming. If that is your thing go for it, but I like the slimming aspect of this one. Unfortunately, it was from Jacob which is no longer, but you can find a similar here.
Right right, so before it is deathly cold outside we need some transitional outer wear right? You know in the fall/winter when the weather man really can’t seem to decide if it will stay in the cooler temps or hop all over the extremes! These are also great when you want to layer. Layering is KEY my friends, dress like an onion. . . layers right? I suggest a couple here. Firstly I mentioned this in my fall favourites post but really get on board here, you’ve got to have a leather jacket! It is a must 🙂 Leather keeps you looking chic and feeling warm. With this leather jacket you can zip up the sleeves for a different look or unsnap the high neck for a more casual moment. My second option in the transitional wear is this little plaid number. Honestly, I feel like the cut just works perfectly! A shorter sleeve gives you an opportunity to add some texture to the look with the gorgeous LONG gloves! These are super soft leather and keep my hands warm 🙂 Also – don’t forget this wine color is really trending this season. I like to get accessories to fill my lust for trendy things. If you go all out and get the coat in the wine color well . . . let’s just say you might not be wearing it for years to come! (Similar coats and gloves here, here and here)[spacer height=”20px”]
MMMMMMkay – So you might think “what about when I am going out and looking hot”? Don’t worry, I got yah covered! You could easily double a peacoat style for this, but it is fun to have a coat with a little bit of glam going on. I am in the market for a blush pink faux fur one like this one. In the mean time I love my candy apple red coat. It is military inspired, warm and has a little glam inspo with gold hardware (similar one here). Put this over top of your Saturday night attire and you’re set to go!
The everyday coat will be different for everyone. For me, an everyday coat is one that is office appropriate – you know “9-5” approved. I still like to keep things chic and edgy even when I am going to work, but it still needs to fit the environment. It’s got to be either a peacoat or this camel coat! This was a Zara find and it is a gem! Slide this on over your suit and you’re warm and looking pro. I also love that the collar is plain because you can continually switch up the look of the jacket. Paring it with a scarf, a brooch or above with the faux fur, it completely changes the vibe of the coat – still office appropriate with just a little more luxe. (Similar coat and scarf here and here)
Last but def. not least the weekend-bruncher – chic, warm and comfy! When you think brunch on a Saturday morning there are two types: the super cozy one at home or the dress up one at Collette’s! This coat will take you through the long winter looking cute. I love that this classic plaid coat its modernized with the colourful fur around the hood. It’s so balanced that it becomes a classic. This is a vintage Burberry but they have a similar one here.
Did I miss any occasions that you need a coat for this winter? What are your favs. this season to keep warm and look chic?
