Toronto has Muskoka like New York has the Hamptons…. Its not an ocean but i think the purpose is the same. The key factors that play in are:
a) Its not too far ( only a couple of hours) and therefore you can simply go for a weekend and;
b) It gives you some much needed “out of the city” time to decompress, relax and get in the water!
Last weekend a group of us went up to a cottage in Muskoka (there are some great finds on AirB&B!). Both mornings I woke up a little earlier to simply enjoy the lake and do something i never seem to have time for in Toronto. These are not huge activities but things like reading my book, doing a little blogging, and having a coffee while just sitting and enjoying the scenery.
This last one is a totally different experience in a big city. First of all we don’t have a balcony in our downtown apartment, so that makes it tough. But even if we did, there would be cars racing back and forth… not really the same feeling as staring off your day beside a lake or the ocean. I don’t know about other people living in cities but i think i can speak for most people in that the “GO GO GO” lifestyle can sometimes ware you down and really make you exhausted. I think it is so important to take time to slow things down and really enjoy what you’re doing. A lot of this can sound very cliche but balance is key. Working hard is so important for setting goals and achieving them. However, if you never take time to relax and recuperate then how can one continue to push hard in life when it counts? It would be like training for a marathon and never have a rest day. It just wouldn’t be good for you, and you wouldn’t come near to your results that you had hoped for.
Take time in life and enjoy it.
